Located around half a mile from the tip of lower manhattan, govenors island – originally the ‘island of nuts’ – used to be a military base. Neal Adams, illustrator of the Batman comics, was born on the island. The island is set to be redeveloped and will soon become a public park – personally, I think it would make a great farm, generating food for New Yorkers and educating city kids on farming and conservation.
Governor’s Island as a giant farm just blew my mind.

My friends Armin and George are hosting the first Beaver Brook School on Aug 25th through Sep 2nd, an intensive 8-day course to learn how to design and construct a building.
Ten applicants will be invited to stay in bunkhouse, spend long days in workshops and at the job site, and walk away with construction know-how. You will also have built a building.
